Our Specialisms
Clean Water
Capital maintenance, network, pumping and strategic mains schemes, from investigation and optioneering through to detailed design.
Wastewater
Sewer, storm and treatment-site civils, designed around how they will be built, operated and maintained.
Investigation
Desktop studies, surveys and proportionate site investigation — done early, before unknowns become problems on site.
Site Support
The engineer who designed the job stays involved through construction, carrying the design through to handover.
Our Projects
Explore some of our work. Projects that show what happens when the right work is done upfront — fewer surprises, better decisions and designs that work on site.
Emergency Rising Main Repair
The Job
Develop the permanent works for the emergency repair of an existing 700 mm rising main. MEG progressed the design from initial scope to construction issue in six weeks.
What we found
The permanent restraint couldn't be designed independently of the excavation. Poor pipe condition, deep excavation, tidal groundwater and sheet-pile removal all affected the conditions the permanent works would rely upon.
The Call
Design around the construction sequence. MEG developed the large-diameter tie-ins and bespoke reinforced-concrete thrust restraint alongside the temporary works and overpumping strategy.
What didn't happen
No material redesign during construction. The permanent repair was constructed and backfilled without material changes to MEG's design.

- 0 Material design changes during construction
AMP8 Water Mains Renewal Programme
The job
Provide outline and detailed design for approximately 60 km of water mains renewal across North West England.
What we found
At programme scale, designing every scheme from scratch wastes effort. Treating every site as the same creates a different problem.
The call
Standardise what can be standardised. Engineer the exceptions. Repeatable solutions are used where conditions allow, with investigation and engineering effort focused on scheme-specific risks. Trenchless renewal is considered before open-cut where appropriate.
What didn't happen
Lessons weren't left on individual schemes. Learning from each design was fed back into standard details and design processes for subsequent schemes.
- ~60km Water mains renewal programme
- Trenchless-first Renewal optioneering
- Repeatable by design Standardised solutions at programme scale
Cowdenbeath LTS Process Equipment Integration
The job
Design the permanent civil and structural works for new process equipment at an operational liquid transfer station.
What we found
The equipment base couldn't be designed in isolation. Existing levels, services, tanker movements and pedestrian access all affected the completed installation.
The call
Treat the installation as one piece of civil engineering. MEG integrated the structural base with levels, kerbing, ducting, access, tanker segregation and handrail design.
What didn't happen
The surrounding civils weren't left to be worked out on site. Access, segregation, levels and services were resolved as part of the permanent design.
- Integrated civils Structure, access, segregation and services
- Design & site support Detailed design through construction
